OBJECTIVITY OVER EMOTIONS RECOMMENDED

Who am I to assess our national situation? I am a citizen. I am educated and experienced in science, including social science. I have observed and participated in our culture and society for many years. At age 85, I probably do not have many years left in this life. I feel deep concern for my progeny, for you, and your progeny.

There are in our world many destructive influences you and I cannot control. War rages between Russia and Ukraine. China again threatens Taiwan. If they go to war, we will be engaged. There is always the risk of nuclear Armageddon. I can’t assess that risk. Any risk is too much.

This is like speaking of the risk of an astroid hit that greatly disrupts or destroys life on Earth. The risk is there. We are as yet unprepared to deal with it. Again, I cannot assess the magnitude of that risk. We are not putting forth great effort or resources to deal with that risk. There is only talk, so far as I can see. It is too vague a risk to distract us from the clear and present dangers we see in front of our faces.

What can we control? We have responsibility, response ability, to control our reactions to that which happens to us, and to unify our efforts to control our personal lives in accordance with the Golden Rule.

I regret as I type “Golden Rule” it almost feels like a cliche, just another meme, but it is not. It is a powerful principal of life well lived. I think it good to think on it several times a…
