CHANGE INCREASING
IT IS ALWAYS WITH US, BUT NOW INTENSELY SO
Do you sense it? I suppose people have always known change occurring, even to the point of anticipating end of the world, return of Jesus, Armageddon, etc.
At age 84, I can’t recall a time of more rapid change in everything about our lives. I recall well World War II. Dramatic change in all our lives, as we as a nation fought for our lives. In Corsicana, Texas, I remember low flying bombers at night during blackout simulated air raids, preparing us for what could happen.
Galveston was a fort, prepared for invasion at any time. German U-boats patrolled just off shore, sinking numerous U.S. freighters. Government told us the smoke from burning vessels was from our target practice, seeking to avoid panic.
Everyone was of a single mind focused on the enemies, Nazi Germany and Japan. We were determined, confident, we would prevail. With great sacrifice and commitment, as a truly united nation, we did, at an unimaginable cost, but with the greatest of rewards — freedom from tyranny.
Post war, baby boomers, Cold War, Joseph McCarthy fear mongering and prosecution, hatred, false accusations, ruining lives; shifting economics as always, new ill-conceived war in Korea, a draw, no dominant win or loss, wasted lives, another new war, Veit Nam, even more ill-conceived joining the wrong side for supposed economic purpose, many lives lost taking, loosing, retaking a single hill, insanety, our first clear military defeat.
