ERRATIC EROTICA — PORN ANYONE?

Erotica — that which is intended to stimulate sexual arousal. Erratic — unpredictable, varying greatly in action.

Erotica — pretty simple, but why “erratic”? Because there is a great discrepancy in how our society deals with sex and it’s stimulation.

We are about to find out if I can talk about sex and keep it brief. Not easy. Big, BIG, subject of great power in our lives.

On the one hand, institutionalized religion virtually relegates all sexual enjoyment to the dark side. Evil, sin, “thou shalt not” dare to enjoy this central element of everyone’s life. Why? Somehow the religious institutions see this abhorrent heresy to empower their control over the membership.

On the other hand, our society, as you know so well, gives sex and it’s enjoyment very high priority in every aspect of our lives, as especially seen in our art, entertainment, business, etc. — sex sells.

Why the great divide? Where did institutionalized religion get this great idea of demonizing sexual pleasure? This is too big a question to try be be thorough in an historical, psychological analysis for this writing, but I’ll summarize some personal points of view.

Way back in the Garden of Eden, religious writers seemed to overlook the simple fact the the Creator of the Garden, of men and women, and all that is, gave us sexual enjoyment. Why? Common answer, to go forth, be fruitful, and fill the earth, to procreate, boys and girls.
