Graham, thank you for this brief statement of Jung’s inner vs. outer lives. I seriously doubt there is any correct statement I could make about Dr. Jung that you don’t already know, have said, or will say. I’ve always been impressed with his struggle to maintain a scientific attitude not just for show, but to honor the scientist in his mystical Self, but it was his true Gnostic nature which dominated who the real Carl Jung was.
I’ve attempted on two separate occasions to wade through Kingsley’s “Catafalque”, and ended by throwing both books in the trash. I could not tolerate his rude, unnecessarily hostile attacks on Plato, yet he was a serious student of Jung. This was Peter’s “Janus face” issue.
