Graham, you and I, as usual, and I dare say Jung, are on the same page re Gnosticism. As typically happens, a group of like minded folks get a vision or an insight of great merit, as did the Gnostics, they join together and begin to obscure the insight with more and more “theology”, leaving behind their original insight. For me, the insight of the Gnostics was direct communion with God, as Jesus and true mystics say we have. Jesus, “Do not pray to me but to the Father who loves you in your own right. The institution opposes this truth because if broadly adopted, the institution becomes superfluous.
