IN A WORLD OF LIES
WHO CAN YOU TRUST?
I trust you, all of you, as far as I know, and I’m not looking any deeper. Those who know me by previous writings know I am by nature a positive person. I dislike constant complaining. It’s a drag, ie, something that holds you back. Back from where? Wherever you want to go.
For a supposedly “positive” guy, this headline doesn't sync. As a positivist, I also seek to be a realist — realist first.
We could see the turning point back during the 2016 nominations when participants worked up to and then began accusing one another on stage of being liars. That may have been the most honest comment made. Never before on that stage have we heard these accusations. Somehow I enjoyed it. Calling someone a liar when they obviously are was perhaps perversely refreshing.
In some strange way that turned out to encourage the lying and the acqusations. Since then, I find being a positivist much harder. Not in the classical sense, but in the current use of the term, I am disturbed to find myself becoming a cynic. I am disturbed to discover I no longer trust most public comment, in politics and commercial adds.
I once said, “The wheels of commerce are greased with bullshit”. That goes for politics as well.
There is a great difference between mistakenly saying or believing something, and consciously deciding to simply lie, and hope people are foolish enough to believe you.
