INTERSPECIES COMMUNION

Life is about relationships. We usually think of that as human to human. Without human relationships life would be empty. But, I am discovering more and more that deep relationship with the animal world is equally rewarding. I now know that if we fail to establish close relationship with the wildlife of our world, we have missed a major benefit of being here.

More than communication, the mutual thinking, telepathic exchange of understood information between species, which is a remarkable event in itself considering the language gap, the communion between species is more than remarkable. It is a deeply felt connection of knowing acceptance, friendship, true relationship. I am finding it, without looking for it, or it is finding me. It is as if some switch has been thrown.

Again we experience the bright contrast between thinking and feeling. We find thinking in communication of information, feeling in the establishment of a knowing relationship, a trusting friendship. Both have great value, but nothing reaches me down deep as does a the feeling that comes with establishing knowing friendship with another species.

Time for some examples. I realize the risk I take giving some of these vignettes. As in synchronistic experience, the identifying marker is the emotional response felt by the participant. Only those who have the experience can feel the emotion it evokes. Told as a story, the listener has no personal relationship with the event, and it becomes just another story.
