MAY I VENT A LITTLE BIT?

THANK YOU

No one likes a whiner. I sure don’t, but it helps to put voice to frustration when I know intelligent friends might listen.

I just “muted” the second writer in the last week, never having needed to do so before now. I certainly don’t fear them. I know me. I’ll waste too much time shouting into the wind, if I don’t get out of the wind. Muting them closes the door on the wind.

Many of you have thousands, even tens of thousands of followers, so when I refer to my numbers there is no braggadocio here, just a little info about this writer.

I have 790 plus followers and have published over 140 essays, a relative neophyte, but not totally inexperienced. The reason I need this little vent is that only these two people, both of whom really are new to Medium, have felt the need to support their closed minded ignorance with emotionally energetic ad hominem, very personal insults supported by their habit of stereotyping.

My need to vent is because these two cases are so dissapointing I found myself seriously asking the question, “Is this worth it?”. It seems I am easily discouraged by what seems to me to be the dumbing down rudeness of our society, But, that is nonsense. Two out of hundreds of interactions? I’m being silly, less than rational.

If I don’t handle this frustration through this venting, and by muting these guys, all I’d do is think about beating the crap out of them. Now, that would be a really mature thing to do, wouldn’t it…
