WE SWIM IN IT
This is a big concept stretching well beyond our ordinary five sensory experience of life, therefore is difficult to contemplate. It is not easy to allow ourselves the freedom to look beyond the familiar. We fear we will go off into some unreality that separates us from what we think to be real life.
We want to be reasonable, pragmatic, accepted by contemporaries, and respected by all. We want to be seen as realistic in all our opinions. The very idea of considering a reality beyond five sensory daily experience seems threatening to many of us.
Society has always had its “outsiders”, men and women claiming to know through experience what is commonly known as “the Other”, an intangible claimed reality beyond our ordinary experience. These people play many different roles — psychics, “fortune tellers”, mediums, ghost hunters, mystics, spiritual councelors of all sorts.
All these people who live on the fringe of western society have traditionally been looked down upon by those who consider themselves fully rational in their dealings with what is generally recognized as the “real world” of daily commercial activity, standard educational programs, traditional religious roles, etc.
As our society seems to be increasingly chaotic with pandemics, political upheaval, wars and threats of war, the growing uncertainty regarding the nature of our lives in the future, there is a growing interest in and acceptance of the thoughts of the fringe people regarding…
