FROG IN THE HEATING WATER

You’ve heard the true story, put a live frog in a pot of water, gradually heat it up, and the frog stays put as it is boiled. Such is the danger we discover in ever so gradual change. It creeps up on us often bringing great danger that we fail to recognize due to the ever so slow and gradual increase in the threatening circumstances.

Things are speeding up now. The water is simmering. We aren’t jumping.

Today, we are the frogs. The dangerous, gradual changes are occurring in our society. Step back. Take a look. What is going on?

Our society has always been conflicted, but so have all societies — nothing new here, except for the fact that, due to our technological advances, the conflicts are worldwide, and are quickly communicated. Our conflicts are a social virus, very contageous. The communications of what is occurring are a major contributor to the dangers inherent in our societal changes.

We, in this “post truth”, “populist” era, are being encouraged to doubt, to question everything. Brought to the front of our attention by Trump, and greatly exacerbated by him, he is not the cause of our problem. Yes, he has greatly aggravated the injury we suffer, but he has only torn open a wound in our belly that has perhaps been present, for the most part, since this became a nation.
