Thank you for introducing yourself too me by following me. I can already tell that I like you. Honest, straight forward, fearless - refreshing.
As an 84 year old white guy, I've seen my relationship with my black brothers and sisters evolve from Corsicana, Tx. in the 1940's and 50's, a small central Texas community that once proudly presented the KKK and had it's share of lynchings, a town where a white man could murder a black man, as happened on the street just behind the home I grew up in, and suffer no legal consequences, to an education at SMU where I was present when they admitted their first black student because he was a very fast, capable football player, to life as a lawyer and mediator where I really got to know many black friends.
Yours is a beautiful tradition and culture that is finally beginning, just beginning, to feel the respect and attention it deserves.
My adopted granddaughter is a beautiful 9 year black girl who is the joy of our lives.
I often wish I had more black blood in me (yes, more. We all come from Africa if we go back far enough). If I did, maybe I could jump and jive as well as I'd like!
I love you and your culture as black, and I love the fact you represent the blending of our two cultures.
I feel as I type both white and black folks criticizing my words for one reason or another, or no reason.
I really don't care. I am sincere.
