IS THAT US?

Both question and answer are up to us.

We need not ask for forgiveness.

All we need do is accept it.

That is the hard part.

What is “sin”, other than an overused and missunderstood word?

“Simple. It is violation of the Ten Commandments.”

Really? Is it that simple?

“It is displeasing God”.

You are going in the wrong direction.

What is “sin”? Do you know?

I suggest “sin” is choosing consciously to do harm to yourself or others, or to carelessly risk doing harm. If this is “sin”, it is not that simple. It is not a list of “Thou shalt nots”, nor is it guesswork as to what is displeasing to God.

To know sin, we must be able to feel, to exercise critical thinking, to judge our actions against moral and ethical standards, to KNOW empathy, to simply know what is right. If we know what is right, we automatically know what is not right.

Judging is not that difficult. Accepting forgiveness is. We judge ourselves, and we are to forgive ourselves. Judging is easier than forgiving. We have forgiveness when we accept it. Accepting forgiveness is not easy.
