THREATS TO HUMAN SURVIVAL

NUCLEAR WAR, PANDEMICS, CLIMATE CHANGE, AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)

Some will ask, “Artificial Intelligence” — how so? To which I respond, “Read the Doomers”. I must reluctantly admit, they have valid points to which we must pay attention.

Some of the Doomers seem to be too pessimistic, already resigned to the certainty AI is destined to destroy humanity. I recognize serious dangers, but I will not submit my humanity to subservience to machines humans create. This is an insult to our human creativity.

Our risk is that creative as we are, we are also greedy. The risks of AI are that the developers are racing to get ahead of each other for money and power with inadequate attention to the genius Frankenstein they are racing to build.

Some Doomers are so fixated on the coming disaster that they seem to predict AI not only becoming conscious, but also becoming possessed by destructive, demonic forces.

The Doomers are exactly as named. They proclaim our greedy nature has already doomed us to extincion by our own creation. This is a possibility if left unchecked. But, we are not all fools, and the creators of AI are not all fools.

The day make come when sane people must execute their creation to preserve human life, but can we? Yes. It will be at first painful. We unplug our creation. Sounds simple. It will be complex, but certainly doable.
